Du pinot noir \u00e0 la d\u00e9clinaison des premiers crus de Pommard, la s\u00e9rie est somptueuse : les Rugiens, s\u00e9veux, droit et finement \u00e9pic\u00e9 ; Fr\u00e9miers, \u00e0 la limite de l\u2019aust\u00e9rit\u00e9, mais tr\u00e8s persistant ; les Vaumuriens se montre plus charnu, plein, avec toujours cette signature \u00e9pic\u00e9e en finale. Mais le temps fera son \u0153uvre.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>2015s and 2016s\u2019 reviews from American wine critic Stephen Tanzer at Vinous<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pommard Vaumuriens 2016 (88-90)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dark red. Very ripe aromas and flavors of black raspberry, bitter chocolate and licorice. A rather powerful, chocolatey village wine with very good clarity of flavour and no shortage of energy. Big, dusty, ripe tannins saturate the mouth and front teeth. Conveys an almost Grenache-like quality with its chocolate element but this wine also has the structure of a C\u00f4te de Nuits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Les Croix Noires 2016 (89-92)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Good dark red. Very ripe scents of dark raspberry and chocolate. Quite powerful but youthfully bound-up, with the impressions of chocolatey richness carrying through the palate. Finishes with big but fine-grained tannins and a serious structure.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Fr\u00e9miers 2016 (90-92)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Medium-deep red-ruby. Dark berry aromas are complicated by nuances of flowers and earth; more complex in a Volnay way than the Croix Noires and Pommard villages. Suave, plush and sweet in the mouth, conveying an impression of tension and a hint of saline minerality. More refined than the preceding samples, finishing with smooth tannins that coat the front teeth. This, too, has the density and aromatic interest of a C\u00f4te de Nuits wine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Epenots 2016 (92-94)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bright ruby-red. Deep, ripe aromas of black cherry and chocolatey oak, plus a high-toned whiff of sherry. Then, large-scaled and aromatic in the mouth, conveying stronger terroir personality than the foregoing wines. Complex and fine-grained, with a positive trace of bracing bitterness. Chewy, chocolatey, well-integrated tannins take over the entire mouth of the back end. This nuanced, fine-grained wine finishes with a trace of dried herbs and has the structure to age. The yield here was just eight hectoliters per hectare, according to estate manager Yves Confuron.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens 2016 (93-95)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bright medium ruby. Vibrant nose combines blackberry, boysenberry, kirsch, violet, minerals and chocolate. Dense, fined-grained and light on its feet, offering uncanny intensity and penetration to its juicy dark berry and mineral flavors. This graceful, vibrant Rugiens, finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins, harmonious acidity and slow-building length. A real live wire, particularly for a wine made from grapes picked in October.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Fr\u00e9miers 2015 (91+)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Healthy ruby-red. Quite sun-drenched on first sniff, with raspberry and spice aromas coming across as more expressive than the \u201916. Sappy, spicy, highly concentrated flavors of red and purple fruits and flowers are already surprisingly supple, with an element of minerality contributing to the impression of vivacity. The plush, building tannins saturate the entire mouth. Seriously concentrated and alive. Yves Confuron told me that these wines are pumped only once, when they are assembled in tank prior to bottling.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Epenots 2015 (93)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Deep ruby-red color. Darker and more brooding on the nose than the Fr\u00e9miers, offering aromas of blackberry, kirsch and licorice complicated by subtle suggestions of spices, flowers and minerals. A step up in concentration on the palate too, but with an element of saline minerality giving the wine a light touch. A bit more delineated than the Rugiens; in fact today this wine makes the Rugiens seem almost monolithic by comparison. Finishes with very fine-grained tannins and lovely mounting lift. For all its intensity, this wine gives a weightless impression \u2013 and really calls for food. This lovely Pommard has a long live ahead of it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens 2015 (94)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Good ruby-red. A distinctly different expression of Pommard from the Grand Clos des Epenots, with the nose dominated by darkest berries, minerals and chocolate. Densely packed and highly concentrated but less open to inspection than the Grand Clos des Epenots; very closed in on itself but already suggest outstanding complexity. Very broad, firm tannins saturate the entire palate and the very long, rising finish leaves the tongue glistening. Classis white-soil Rugiens: already complex on the nose but in need of cellaring to gain in pliancy and expand.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>La Revue des vins de France, Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2016 \u2013 3 stars<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab [\u2026] Au sein d\u2019une appellation qui se cherche un peu, ils produisent les pommards les plus excitants de notre \u00e9poque, tous issus de vendanges enti\u00e8res. Les terroirs sont les meilleurs de la commune. La viticulture biologique, mais non revendiqu\u00e9e, est certainement la plus exigeante en mati\u00e8re de contr\u00f4le des rendements et de recherche de la maturit\u00e9 id\u00e9ale. \u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab [\u2026] le niveau du <strong>bourgogne rouge<\/strong> en dit long sur la qualit\u00e9 du domaine. Par sa solidit\u00e9, le 2012 se confirme comme une bouteille \u00e0 faire p\u00e2lir quelques pommards. Avec une ann\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9volution, les pommards premier cru sont remarquables.<br \/>\n<strong>Le Vaumuriens 2012<\/strong> poss\u00e8de un r\u00e9el \u00e9clat et une maturit\u00e9 plus pouss\u00e9e que le 2013, qui reste d\u2019une parfaite finesse.<br \/>\n<strong>Le Vaumuriens 2007<\/strong> est m\u00fbr et fin, avec un jus distingu\u00e9. A boire.<br \/>\nSur <strong>Les Croix Noires 2013<\/strong>, l\u2019empreinte du bois\u00e9 est plus lisible mais le fond du vin est charpent\u00e9, avec une belle s\u00e8ve de tanins. Il sera accessible jeune.<br \/>\nSur le terroir des <strong>Fr\u00e9miers<\/strong>, le 2012 offre d\u00e9j\u00e0 une patine ou les tanins, m\u00eame en relief sur ce jeune vin, sont bien int\u00e9gr\u00e9s. Le jus des Fr\u00e9miers 2013 est plus croquant, avec un fruit lisse et toujours de la race.<br \/>\nNous aimons le cote s\u00e9veux et sanguin du <strong>Rugiens<\/strong>, sa densit\u00e9 sans rigidit\u00e9, remarquablement pilot\u00e9e en 2013.<br \/>\nSur le terroir plus chaud du <strong>Grand Clos des Epenots<\/strong>, le 2013 offre une proposition charnelle, enveloppante, dans l\u2019esprit profond et s\u00e9ducteur du 2012. On l&#8217;attendra un peu avant de le servir sur du gibier. A boire entre 2018 et 2033. \u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens 2013: 18<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wine Spectator, February 2014:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab [\u2026] <strong>The 2012 [\u2026] Pommard, from the lieu-dit Vaumuriens<\/strong>, is ripe and concentrated, offering black cherry, blackberry, tobacco, earth and hints of chocolate (88\u201391).<br \/>\n<strong>From the premiers crus, the Croix Noir<\/strong> displays focus and freshness, a linear, vertical wine, with cherry, black currant, earth and spice notes (89\u201392).<br \/>\n<strong>The Fremiers<\/strong> is elegant, with a violet aroma accenting black cherry fruit (89\u201392).<br \/>\n<strong>The Grand Clos des Epenots<\/strong> reveals richness and density, with more supple tannins and class than its predecessors and flavors of cherry and sandalwood (90\u201393).<br \/>\nBut the <strong>Les Rugiens<\/strong> is the star, its currant, cherry, floral, spice and mineral flavors showing energy, harmony and length. An ethereal, vertical red (92\u201395).<br \/>\nThese are wines that require patience. In a mini-vertical of Grand Clos des Epenots (2011, 2008, 2007 and 1999), only the &#8217;99 is beginning to reveal all its facets. \u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>La Revue des vins de France, Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2013 &#8211; 3 stars:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab [\u2026] Ils produisent les pommards les plus excitants de notre \u00e9poque. Les terroirs sont les meilleurs de la commune et la viticulture, certainement la plus exigeante en mati\u00e8re de contr\u00f4le des rendements et de recherche de la maturit\u00e9 id\u00e9ale. Les derniers mill\u00e9simes sont au sommet et le domaine acc\u00e8de \u00e0 la troisi\u00e8me \u00e9toile. \u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab <strong>Parmi les 2006<\/strong>, les deux pommards sont pr\u00eats \u00e0 \u00eatre bus: le Fr\u00e9miers, dont nous notons l\u2019\u00e9volution positive sur des notes de fruits mac\u00e9r\u00e9s, de sous-bois, pr\u00e9sente des tanins l\u00e9g\u00e8rement secs en finale, le Clos des Epenots appara\u00eet plus plein et d\u2019une texture plus homog\u00e8ne. <strong>Le mill\u00e9sime 2007<\/strong> est une tr\u00e8s belle r\u00e9ussite, le terroir des Vaumuriens se livre, ici, sur de subtils parfums de roses et de pivoines ; la bouche est d\u00e9licate. Tactilement, il d\u00e9ploie une belle envergure. Le Grand Clos des Epenots, en \u00ab garde sous le pied \u00bb, son allonge et sa s\u00e8ve en font un vin plus charnu, les saveurs \u00e9pic\u00e9es et florales apportent de la complexit\u00e9. Issu d\u2019une ann\u00e9e froide, le Clos des Epenots se situe sur la retenue et la tension, le fruit est encore assez frais, tenu par le support acide. [&#8230;]. <strong>Les 2009<\/strong> sont parfaitement g\u00e9r\u00e9s, ce sont des bouteilles \u00e0 avoir absolument en cave, la vendange enti\u00e8re jouant tout son r\u00f4le sur ce type de mill\u00e9sime. Une belle \u00e9nergie anime ces vins, dont les tanins rac\u00e9s constitueront la colonne vert\u00e9brale. <strong>En 2010<\/strong>, le premier cru Les Fr\u00e9miers est une jolie bouteille, \u00e0 l\u2019expression plus juteuse et moins confite pour le moment. Le Grand Clos des Epenots constitue le tr\u00e9sor du domaine: le jus, sublime, abrite un fruit gourmand et d\u00e9voile une grande mati\u00e8re. \u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u00ab [\u2026] Le seul blanc du domaine est une valeur s\u00fbre, et ce simple bourgogne atteint le niveau d\u2019un cru. So alluring up front, but needs time to integrate. A licorice accent lingers. Best from 2015 through 2025.
